What is All-on-5 implant treatment?
All-on-5 dental implants follow the same principle as our All-on-4 teeth in a day treatment, with additional implants to provide extra support where clinically appropriate. Five titanium posts are placed into your jawbone, where they act like artificial tooth roots.
A complete bridge of new teeth is then secured on top. Unlike a denture, there is no plate covering the roof of your mouth and nothing to take out at night.
The additional implant gives the bridge extra stability, spreading your bite force across more anchor points. This proven approach to replacing missing teeth suits people with loose dentures, failing teeth, or a full arch that can no longer be saved.
Why five implants for a full arch?
The right number of implants depends on your jaw, your bite, and your individual goals. Some biomechanical studies suggest that where each implant sits affects how evenly your bite spreads across the new teeth. That added stability tends to matter most when your bite is heavy or your bone density varies. Other factors, such as gum health and jaw shape, also influence the recommendation.

Your implant surgery

Over the following months, the implants bond with your jawbone in a process called osseointegration. This creates a stable foundation, a bit like tree roots anchoring into soil.

This treatment was designed for people whose problems go beyond one or two teeth. You may recognise yourself in some of these situations:
- You wear a full set of dentures and feel limited by what you can eat or how it fits.
- Several teeth are loose or failing, and patching them up no longer feels worthwhile.
- You face having your remaining teeth removed and want a fixed replacement from day one.
- Previous bridgework or partial dentures have reached the end of their life.
Age alone does not usually determine suitability for implant treatment. We assess overall health, healing capacity, and what you want your teeth to do, not the date on your birth certificate.
If you only need to replace one or a few teeth, our missing 1 to 4 teeth options may suit you better. And if you were previously advised that implants were not possible, planning technology has moved on considerably since then.
Like any surgery, implant treatment carries some risks. We explain these openly at your consultation so you can make a calm, informed decision.
Implants are intended to provide a long-term solution for tooth replacement. Although no dental treatment can be guaranteed to last indefinitely, the evidence behind full arch treatment is encouraging. A systematic review reported survival rates of 93.3 to 100% for full arch fixed prostheses over five to ten years.
How long yours lasts depends on a few things you can influence:
- Daily hygiene: Cleaning around the bridge keeps gums healthy and protects the bone beneath.
- Professional maintenance: Regular hygienist visits catch small issues before they grow.
- Lifestyle: Smoking and heavy teeth grinding can shorten implant lifespan.
- Normal wear: The bridge itself may need refurbishment or replacement over the decades, even when the implants remain healthy.
A full arch bridge usually carries between 10 and 14 teeth, replacing everything in the upper or lower jaw. The exact number is planned around your face, bite, and smile line rather than a standard template. During the design stage, you will see and approve the look before anything is finalised.
A lack of bone does not automatically rule you out. Detailed 3D scans often reveal possibilities a standard X-ray cannot, including:
- Strategic implant positioning, where implants are angled to use the strongest available bone.
- Adding a fifth implant to share the load where bone quality varies across the jaw.
- Bone grafting, which can rebuild volume in specific areas where appropriate.
Suitability for All-on-5 treatment can only be determined following a full clinical examination and assessment.
