- Will it hurt? – We fully numb the area and check you’re comfortable before we start. Most people report mild soreness for a few days, usually managed with shop-bought pain relief. Discomfort typically settles within a week.
- How long does it all take? – After the implant is placed, the bone needs time to fuse with it (called osseointegration). Final teeth are usually fitted after a healing period; many cases need at least three months, and the whole journey can span roughly four to eight months depending on your case.
Gentle options to keep you calm
We offer several techniques, often used together, to make treatment relaxed and manageable:
- Extra time and clear stop-signals – We plan longer appointments for nervous patients and agree a hand signal so you’re in control throughout.
- Local anaesthetic and numbing gel – The area is thoroughly numbed; we won’t begin until you’re comfortable. NHS guidance notes that any post-op soreness is usually short-lived and responds to standard painkillers (we’ll advise what’s suitable for you).
- Sedation for anxiety – For those who want “something more”, we can discuss conscious sedation (tablet or IV). This helps you feel deeply relaxed but you remain responsive and breathe on your own. In the UK, dental sedation follows national standards with trained teams, continuous monitoring and robust safety checks.
- A calm environment – Noise-cancelling headphones, breaks on request, and step-by-step updates so there are no surprises. NHS advice also supports simple behavioural techniques—breathing, gradual exposure, and honest two-way communication.
